Kathmandu: Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak has vowed strict action against those responsible for the violent attacks on journalists and media houses during the March 28 demonstration at Tinkune, Kathmandu. He assured that a fair investigation would identify those behind the atrocities.
Minister Lekhak made this commitment during a meeting with a delegation from the Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ), led by its General Secretary Ram Prasad Dahal, on Wednesday. The FNJ delegation submitted a memorandum demanding justice for the victims.
Describing the incident as an anarchic and violent demonstration carried out by ideology-less elements, Minister Lekhak emphasized that the mob was intent on committing crimes. He condemned the attack, stating, "The mob crossed every limit, putting journalists and media houses at risk. The Nepal government is taking this matter seriously."
The minister also provided information on relief assistance for the family of journalist Suresh Rajak, who lost his life, as well as another injured journalist.
On behalf of the FNJ, General Secretary Dahal urged the Home Minister to ensure a thorough investigation into the violence against media personnel and the death of an on-duty journalist, while demanding stringent action against the culprits.
The information was shared by the Home Minister's secretariat.
